Pinot Gris 2015

We sourced our 2015 Pinot Gris from two Umpqua Valley vineyards. The South Fork Vineyard is at the confluence of the North and South Umpqua Rivers. These rivers have deposited a rich amalgam of siltstones on this bench from all of the rock that makes up the Umpqua drainage. The soils are sandy, deep and well drained. Our other source is the Pace Family Vineyard in the Elkton Oregon AVA, on a west facing bench 3 miles east of our winery in Elkton. The soils here are also born of the Umpqua River, but windblown.
The 2015 vintage was, once again, the warmest on record for the third year in a row, but with few heat spikes. The wine is a pale golden color and the aromas leaping from the glass have white peach, green apple, quince, and green bean notes, with a nice tropical pineapple overlay. The flavors center around the nice quince notes with strong citrus contributions, evoking thoughts of lemon curd. The mouthfeel is quite full, with a cleansing, tart finish. Our Pinot Gris is a very versatile wine at the table, but one thing we always have in the back of our minds with this wine is oysters on the half shell.
Bottled 1.222 cases, 13.9% ABV, 3.23 pH, 6.9 G/L Total Acidity.
